Let Me Go Into My Militant Bag

First, let me get militant about this issue (but what else would you expect from a webpage called The Creative Brother?) There was not any television or movie violence around when:

• millions of Africans were kidnapped and sold into slavery
• black people who were already living in America were kidnapped and sold into slavery,
• Native Americans were slaughtered,
• white women were killed in the Salem witch trials,
• Europeans were tortured in the Inquisition

I could go on, but you get my point. If you don't it's this; humanity does not need ANY help being savage, cruel, and twisted, because we were that way before TV, and will still be that way when Media Violence is gone.

I Am Glad There Is Violence On The Tube and Screen

I am so glad that there is violence in the media, in the form of entertainment. Even though I am not a sports fan, I'm glad people spend all their money on football, basketball, baseball, and so on. Why? Because the media offers an outlet for the lust/kill drive that exists in most of us. That way, if someone wants to see some blood or vent some pent-up aggression, they can do that through a distant figure on the screen or basketball court instead of putting on a doo-rag or a white hood and coming down my block and killing me.

Most of the religious of the world take about the struggle of our base nature against our more noble nature. If that was true thousands of years ago, it's probably true now. Heck, it is true now. I know we think that we are so modern in the new milenium, but I really don't think that we have changed all that much.

The problems we have in this world are not because of the media, it is because of us. We are greedy, lustful, morbid creatures. The only thing that is going to change that is if we decide to change ourselves.

And, as far as our kids go, if we don't want them to watch certain movies or TV shows, all we have to do is not rent the movie, or reach up and turn the channel.

Sorry teenagers, but the problem is not the image on the screen, it is the image inside our hearts.
